write about what you fear most

they said
write about what you fear most
and I thought of the grief
I always wore to sleep
after trying to remember
the right shade of chocolate
in your eyes.

for a long time
your ribcage was
the safest place
I’ve laid my heart on,
my home.
so you can imagine
how I felt when
you started flowing
from my ink,
my fingers,
my words.

but the more I'd written,
the more I felt

you are a shattered poem
and I can’t handle you
on paper
